LATEST NEWS  15 March 2010

New kids on the block

Well, new kids..... factually not really but still, in a way yes. Radio Seagull is pleased to announce the return of the long lost Seagull voice of Norman Barrington. Norman was on board the MV Mi Amigo when Radio Seagull broadcasted on 259 metres MW. Another familiar voice people know from that era and that ship is Brian Anderson's. He worked for Radio Caroline at the time. Starting mid March, every Tuesday and Thursday from 1-3 (midnight to 2 in the UK) they will compose a very interesting bouquet of music and you are sincerely invited to join in by tuning in to Radio Seagull on 1602 or via the world wide web. Norman and Brian are likely to visit the ship when offshore, which might well be there first offshore experience since the seventies. Another new kid on the block who is going to join the crew when the ship is offshore is Steve Conway. The Irish presenter will join Chris Kennedy on board who also is Irish, so make way for the Dubliners, the Guinness and the Irish tea.

On Thursday the 18th March 2010,

Martin Smith will be running a competition in his programme to win a 4 track Martyn Joseph CD ‘You Must Hear This’.
We have 4 Cd’s to give away so join Martin between 19.00 – 21.00 Central European Time (18.00 – 20.00 GMT) for your chance to win in this easy to answer competition. Why not catch up with Martyn Joseph on his current UK Tour, details at

Radio Seagull offshore around the clock?

As an offshore period like we had in 2008 and 2009 demands a lot of preparation, so the organization has already started to update last years blueprint of the event. The planned time for the broadcast will be late April, early May, probably around ascension. A change compared to last year is the anchor. The ship will no longer be "anchored" to a buoy, but will use her own anchor. This way we hope to avoid the constant clashing of the buoy against the ship when the battle between tide and wind stops the ship from swinging round.

Another new feature will be the Radio Seagull weekend. For three days the 1602 will radiate Radio Seagull programs only. The Radio Waddenzee presenters on the ship will be replaced for Radio Seagull jocks and Radio Waddenzee will close down for that time.

More details are to follow.

My Seagull Friend

Singer Song writer Nick Barnes has kindly donated his song My Seagull Friend to Radio Seagull and Radio Seagull Records for us to sell and raise funds for the maintenance of the Jenni Baynton.

Here's a note from Nick on how the song came about:

The song My Seagull Friend.......
Well where do I start. Martin Smith phoned me one day a couple of years ago and asked me if I could put a jingle together for his programme on Radio Seagull.
So I set to work and wrote the jingle. I really liked the structure of it and started to work on it as a full blown song about Radio Seagull. So I set to work doing a bit of home work about the radio station.
When I had written the song and music I sent a copy of it off to Tommy Mandel
who has helped me with my music. Tommy is the keyboard player with the Bryan Adam's Band. The song came back 3 weeks later sounding great.

So thanks to Nick 'My Seagull Friend' will be available as an EP in the New Year exclusively from the Radio Seagull web site, the track listing is:

1. My Seagull Friend (Tommy Mandel Mix)

2. My Seagull Friend (Acoustic Version)

3. Radio Seagull Jingle

4. My Seagull Friend Original Promo

5. My Seagull Friend 2010 Promo.

Whilst holidaying in France we took a visit to Douarnenez in Brittany and to my surprise came across a familiar sight in the form of a Lightship, as there was no transmitter mast it wasn’t the Jenni Baynton on holiday as well but Trinity House Lightvessel number 4 ‘Scarweather’.Decommissioned in 1989 the ship had been purchased by the Musée de Bateau in Douarnenez/France for £40,000, for restoration and renamed to ’Scarweather’.

The ship was no longer at the pier of the museum ships but in the middle of the water and there appeared to be no visits to the ship.
